Parents and residents in the community are invited to attend a planning meeting on Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. regarding a future learning centre in Sun Peaks. The meeting will look at creating a not-for-profit society for the proposed learning centre and getting input on an overall vision of a Sun Peaks-based education program.
A survey will also be sent out to check how many parents are willing to enrol their children with the @Kool program in Sun Peaks for 2010 and 2011.
There were more questions than answers during an informational meeting on Friday as attendees explored the initial requirements for a K-7 learning centre in Sun Peaks. But the children, some of whom were brought by the parents to the meeting, served as a strong motivation for the attendees to develop the plan further.
Around 25 parents and residents from Sun Peaks and surrounding communities attended the meeting on Friday at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort to develop a future education program for children in the community. Dean Coter, principal of School District 73’s @Kool distributed learning program, provided some information about @Kool and consulted the community regarding how the program might be best utilized and implemented. A future meeting that will show the parents a sample @Kool curriculum is being planned.
