Police looking for missing Sun Peaks resident

UPDATED 10:40 a.m. – Kamloops Search and Rescue is at Sun Peaks this morning conducting a search for missing resident Ryan Shtuka.

Several ground crews were on the scene. At 10:30 a.m. resident volunteers who arrived at the search trailer were briefed that they may be split into teams and to be used in about one hour if needed.

“The resort is available as a resource for both SAR and the RCMP,” said Aidan Kelly, Sun Peaks Resort LLP (SPR) chief of marketing, in an email. “We have strong working relationships with all parties involved and will assist where possible as the respective organizations work through this situation. Our team is in communication to support efforts where required.”

Kelly also confirmed Shtuka is an SPR employee.

8:30 a.m. – Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Ryan Shtuka, who was last seen leaving a house party on Burfield Dr. at around 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 17.

He was believed to have walked to his own home located a short distance away. Shtuka did not appear for his scheduled shift at work later that day and has not been active on social media or cellular networks since he was last seen.

The police were notified and a search began on later on Feb. 17. They planned to continue the search at daylight today, Feb. 18. Police vehicles with a K9 unit set up outside Ski Patrol.


Shtuka was last seen wearing dark jeans, a grey / white shirt, a blue coat and a burgundy ball cap. He is 19 years of age, 5’10”, 155 lbs, blond hair with blue eyes and Caucasian.
