Propane facility emergency exercise, September 11

British Columbian utility company FortisBC will be conducting a mock emergency training exercise on September 11.

The training exercise will be held in coordination with Sun Peaks Utilities, Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality, Sun Peaks Fire Rescue, the RCMP and Gibson’s Trucking.

Although the training exercises have been taking place at the resort for the past several years, this will be the first time Sun Peaks municipality will be involved in the training process.

“This is an annual exercise; we’ve been (conducting) them for several years. It’s part of the utilities’ commitment to safe operations for the community,” said Pat Miller manager and chief operator of Sun Peaks Utilities.

It’s not anticipated that there will be any interruptions to services for residents or visitors to the resort.

The mock emergency exercise is important for safety purposes to test the emergency response procedures to FortisBC’s Sun Peaks Propane Facility.
