Provincial and national events come to Sun Peaks

Two major snowboarding events are coming to Sun Peaks this January.
The B.C. Snowboard Provincial Series and the RBC Riders Cup are going to stop by Sun Peaks for two consecutive days. A total of 100 participants are expected to take part in these two events.
The RBC Riders Cup is a national skills development program for young snowboarders with zero to three years of riding experience. The goal of the program is to help snowboarders develop their technique and skills while competing in a safe environment. Their program in Sun Peaks will be a combination of a snowboard instruction combined with a fun competition at the end. This is the first year that the RBC Riders Cup is including slopestyle in the program. The slopestyle competition will be held on Jan. 22, 2011.
The B.C. Snowboard Association’s Provincial Series slopestyle competition will take place the following day on Jan. 23, 2011. Sun Peaks is just one stop in this provincial snowboard series. It has 14 events in total and will take place at several ski areas in the province including Big White, Mt. Seymour and Red Mountain. In addition to slopestyle, the series also includes snowboard cross events that will take place in other venues outside of Sun Peaks. The finals will be held at Big White Ski Resort from March 11 to 13, 2011.
Participants may register up to the morning of the competition. Advance registration can be made online at www.bcsnowboard.com and www.canadasnowboard.ca.
