Get a good night seep Friday, because Saturday’s going to be a big one.
Three big events ring in the winter season on Saturday Nov. 19.
First, Nov. 19 is municipal Election Day. Polling stations are open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Sun Peaks Municipal office, or if in Kamloops, the TNRD office. If you haven’t voted in the advance polls, this is your last chance to make your voice heard in regard to who the next mayor of Sun Peaks will be: incumbent Al Raine, or challenger Renate Kals.
Saturday is also the opening day of Sun Peaks Resort. Four chairlifts, the Sunburst, Sundance, Crystal, and Elevation Chairs, and the Village Platter area will be open as of 9 a.m., making this a true top-to-bottom opening day. The resort will have 30 runs open for downhill skiing and riding. Nordic trails open Fri. Nov. 18 with groomed and track set trails open for classic and skate skiers’ use.
Over 90 centimetres of snow has fallen in the last week, and there’s no mistaking that winter has found its way to Sun Peaks.
To round off the evening, the major fundraising event for the Sun Peaks Alpine Club and Sun Peaks Education Society, the Firefighters’ Gala, takes place. The consistently sold out event has event has sold out again, with over 280 tickets purchased. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. with silent auction, dinner and dancing to follow.
