Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime unit was tasked with the investigation into the threats that were allegedly made by 43-year-old Gregory McNeil. The nature of the threats were towards a financial institution and indicated the use of a firearm.
As a result of these threats, uniformed officers attended the Sun Peaks area to arrest McNeil on Nov. 25, 2010. It was during this time that a police involved shooting occurred. Lethbridge Regional Police Services have assumed responsibility of the investigation into the police involved shooting.
McNeil is not a resident of Sun Peaks. He was arrested while doing construction work in a resident’s condo.
On Saturday Nov. 27, 2010 members of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed a search warrant at McNeil’s home, which is located in a rural area approximately an hour outside of Kamloops. During the search, officers located a concealed room that contained an arsenal of weapons, ammunition, and bullet proof vests. The investigation is ongoing with police proposing numerous additional criminal charges against McNeil.
A firearms expert has been called in to examine the weapons to assist in the investigation due to the wide range of weapons located and to determine where they fall within the firearms act.
