SPIN Cup Golf Finale

The leaves may have started to fall but the golf competition at Sun Peaks was heating up as the SPIN Cup Men’s Night drew to a close. Held over a 19-week period, over 100 different golfers went head to head in a bid to be named the SPIN Cup Champion. Based on the hugely popular FedEx Cup, players were awarded points for participation, skills challenges and random point’s draws throughout the golf season.

SPIN Cup organizer Kelly Dye said the success of the event was due to the great support it received.

“It was the support of all our local golfers, sponsors and Sun Peaks Golf Course staff that really made the SPIN Cup work this year. All the restaurants, shops and small businesses chipped in to make it a great season long event.” Eighteen different sponsors supplied over $7,500 worth of prizes toward the event.

The last round saw several Sun Peaks golfers vying for the cup with only 10 points separating the top three. Sun Peaks’ own Brendon Slaney was crowned SPIN Cup Champion for 2010.

Slaney took home a set of Taylor Made Burner Irons supplied by Golf Experts-Aberdeen. This wasn’t Slaney’s only victory this season as the one handicap golfer also took home the title of Sun Peaks Club Champion during a weekend long tournament in August. The Sun Peaks Golf Course closes Oct. 11.
