SPMRM meets with Little Shuswap Indian Band

C2C forums continue between communities

Two local governments are coming together in hopes of improving regional economies and creating lasting relationships.

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality (SPMRM) and the Little Shuswap Indian Band met as part of a Community to Community (C2C) forum.

SPMRM representatives first met with the band in September 2018 and met again this spring. Chief administrative officer Rob Bremner said they would like to meet again in June and three or four times a year in the future.

“We’re trying to find ways to work together,” he said. “We’re trying to involve them in a cultural component with the (Sun Peaks) Centre when we know the layout and finishes.”

C2C forums are designed to open lines of communication between municipalities and First Nations groups. Facilitated by the Union of BC Municipalities, it was created in 1999 to connect communities who can share goals and opportunities and to discuss issues. Communities receive grant money from the provincial and federal government to pay for some of the costs for venue, food and planning of the meetings.
