The Sun Peaks Centre Stage crew is back for year two of the free three-day training session for locals interested in stage design, lighting set up and show management.

The session starts with classroom training, hands-on guidance from expert mentors with a Q&A and final exam. Participants receive a certificate of completion, enabling them to be on call to work for the shows at Sun Peaks Centre stage, senior manager of events at Tourism Sun Peaks, Theresa St. Louis explained.

“Last year’s academy was a big success,” St. Louis said. The 2025 summer academy had 25 participants with about 13 who continued their training working in three of the shows put on last summer with a few participants returning for the 2026 summer program.

This program was designed to train local staff like Lilly McGregor to work with the Sun Peaks Centre Stage crew on the summer concerts, such as Rockin’ in the Peaks. McGregor was a participant in last year’s program and worked on most of the shows last summer. She’s returning this year as a summer events assistant.

Friendships were one of the best takeaways from the session, McGregor said.

“Just hanging out with the team afterwards and appreciating all of our hard work come together.”

As someone with zero experience, McGregor said the program helped her find a new hobby.

“Even if it’s not something that you know you want to do longterm, I think it’s really valuable to just do and learn and kind of a skill set that you can have for life.”
