Jason White, owner of Powder Ventures Excavations Ltd., is scheduled to make his return to the National Association of Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) Pinty’s race series Aug. 15.
Last week, NASCAR announced the Pinty’s series will return to the Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ont. and Sun Peaks local racer Jason White jumped on the opportunity to get behind the wheel of his stock car again with sponsor D.J. Kennington (DJK) racing.
White’s previous two outings on the race track earlier this year at Daytona, Fl. in February were successful with top ten results in the Automotive Racing Club of America (ARCA) Series and Truck series.
Shortly after, the 2020 season and White’s plans to race in Talladega and elsewhere were put on hold due to COVID-19.
“It’s great to have Jason back with us this season,” said DJK racing principal DJ Kennington.
“He’s a great guy to work with, he knows how to take care of the car and he’s competitive. A perfect fit,” he added.
White has been training to keep his competitive edge sharp during the break, practising on a racing simulator every day since the season was put on hold after February’s races.
“It’s been a great way to stay sharp and race some fantastic tracks against really good competition,” White said. “But nothing beats the real thing.”
White also wants to add more races to this season’s racing calendar.
“I’m waiting to see what other Canadian dates are confirmed and then hopefully we can do more racing here and I’ll monitor what’s happening in the U.S. as well to see if that is a possibility,” White explained.
Last season, White became the first western Canadian racer to participate in 100 races in the NASCAR Pinty’s series.
“It was special,” said White. “It worked out nicely that I could hit the 100th (start) at Saskatoon, hitting that milestone in the west and having my family there to share in the night with me made it extra special”.
