Sun Peaks Music Festival returns for its eighth year

Each year, students from all over British Columbia and Alberta head to Sun Peaks for the Annual Sun Peaks Music Festival. This year, the festival runs from May 13 to 15 at the Delta Sun Peaks. This is the eighth year of the event put on by Conbrio Festivals.

About 1,000 students will be in the resort to participate in a non-competitive festival featuring adjudicated performances and workshops. There will be jazz cafe performances as well as massed band and massed choir performances which are considered the event’s highlights.

Although most of the performances are only open to registered participants, a couple are open to the public. One of them is the Evening Festival Concert featuring professional performers on Sat., May 14 (two performances at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.)

“We could accommodate a few people as there are a limited number of tickets,” said Susan Magnan, one of the managing and artistic directors for the event.

Organizers will have a festival desk at the Delta where people can purchase Festival Concert tickets.

Another opportunity to see and hear the musicians is at the student performances which run on Fri., May 13 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sat., May 14 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All of the events will be held at the Delta Sun Peaks ballroom.

“We’d like to thank the wonderful volunteers from Sun Peaks. We couldn’t do this festival without them,” she added. The volunteers serve as the bands’ guides at the performances and workshops.
