Sun Peaks, BC (December 15, 2009) – Sun Peaks’ Elli Terwiel is back on top of the podium after a career-first victory at the Northwest Funds Nor-Am Cup yesterday at Panorama Mountain Village.
After 15 months of rehabilitation on a knee injury, Terwiel grabbed first place in the ladies slalom with a two-run combined time of one minute 50.08 seconds.
“I had a huge mix of emotions going on as I crossed the finish line,” said Terwiel. “The first thing that flashed through my head when I saw my time was how much I’ve gone through in the past year and how my hard word has paid off.”
Terwiel is still shooting for a spot on the Canadian National Team for the 2010 Olympics, but even if she doesn’t make it on the team, she’ll be there. Terwiel is fore-running for the ladies Slalom and Giant Slalom events in Whistler this February.
“Elli is a testament to athletic dedication with her steadfast perseverance to succeed in alpine racing,” said Anne Haight, Director of Sales and Marketing with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “She has returned stronger and more confident than ever after her injury last season and Sun Peaks Resort Corporation is proud to sponsor Elli. We are thrilled with her win and wish her continued success in the races to come.”
