Take a walk, have a read

New Initiative in Barriere gives kid the chance to learn on the run

If your child won’t sit still and read, you’re in luck.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) has installed a Story Walk in Barriere’s Fadear Park.

What’s a Story Walk? Well, you can think of it as a story that appears on seperate placards in a natural space.

The first title showing in the park is One Love by Cedella Marley. Based on Bob Marley’s famous song of the same name, the story is about a girl enlisting her friends, family and community to help transform a neighbourhood park for the better.

Titles will be rotated out approximately every two months and patrons are invited to make title suggestions and donate funds to support future installations.

The project was supported by the TNRL, Barriere & Literacy Outreach, the District of Barriere, Visual Signs & Printing as well as a number of community donors.

Patrons who take a photo of their walk and tag #TNRLStoryWalk on social media have a chance to win a special prize, drawn once per title.
