It’s that time of year again, Movember is upon us and the growing of epic moustaches to raise money to combat men’s cancer begins.
Movember is both a charming and serious representation of the critical issues surrounding men’s cancers, notably prostate cancer.
Although many grow a moustache for November, not everyone contributes to the goal set out by the Movember Foundation. Movember is meant to both raise money and awareness for prostate and many other men’s cancers.
The male population of Sun Peaks participates yearly in this campaign, and this year contributing to the cause personally affects one of Sun Peaks’ former locals, Bill Duncan who’s currently battling prostate cancer.
In an effort to help Duncan with his travel and other expenses during treatment, the community has rallied around him. There will be a breakfast buffet fundraiser at Masa’s Bar and Grill on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. with raffles and prizes. For those who can’t make that fundraiser, donations can be made at www.fundrazr.com under “Bill Loves Bacon,” or by visiting the Facebook event page of the same name.
If you’re growing a Movember moustache yourself, or actively not growing one, register your name with Movember Canada to raise money for the cause. Or, if you see a local rocking a newly acquired moustache, make sure you reach into your wallet and donate to help accomplish the Movember Foundations goal to “change the face of men’s health.”
