Three rollovers in one day

RCMP CarPolice were kept busy attending three rollovers between Sun Peaks and Heffley Creek on the afternoon of February 2.

The first incident occurred at 1:57 p.m: B.C. Ambulance notified Tk’emlups Rural RCMP that a small car had gone off the road and rolled on Heffley Louis Creek Road near Little Heffley Lake. The lone occupant, a female, was out of the vehicle and walking around. RCMP reports the driver was driving to Kamloops after a day of skiing in Sun Peaks and was not travelling fast when the car started to fishtail and ended up in the ditch. The car came to a rest on a power pole. The driver was examined by an ambulance and sustained no injuries.

At 2:35 p.m. while en route to the previous accident, RCMP came across a blue Ford Explorer on its side. It appeared as though the driver had lost control on the slush filled roads on a corner, hit the snow on the side of the road and rolled onto its side. The vehicle had sustained little damage and the occupants had left.

At 3:27 p.m. a report was received from B.C. Ambulance of a single vehicle rollover involving a Ford Explorer on Sun Peaks Road, near Alpine Drive in Sun Peaks. The two occupants had left the vehicle and no ambulance attended the scene.

Officers also attended incidents near the Tobiano Golf Course, on the Coquihalla Highway and near Inks Lake. Road conditions were poor in all areas with approximately two inches of fresh, slushy snow in higher elevations.

Kamloops RCMP Corporal Cheryl Bush said a large amount of snowfall had created “treacherous driving conditions” and reminded drivers to slow down and drive accordingly during snowfall.
