Whitecroft and Heffley Creek residents will be heading to the polls on Saturday, November 15, as they cast their votes in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) General Local Elections.
Electoral Area P (Rivers and the Peaks, which includes the communities of Whitecroft and Heffley Creek) has two candidates declared for the role of regional director, John Sternig and Mel Rothenburger.
Sternig is the current TNRD director of Electoral Area P and has served in that role for the past six years. Residing in Heffley Lake, Sternig has a background in accounting.
A Black Pine resident, Rothenburger is no stranger to local government. He’s previously been a director of the TNRD, and is a past Kamloops mayor and a former newspaper editor at the now closed Kamloops Daily News.
The General Election will take place on Saturday, November 15, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling locations within Electoral Area P include the Sun Peaks Municipality Office and Heffley Creek Elementary.
Advance voting will also take place at the Sun Peaks Municipality Office on Wednesday, November 5 and at the TNRD office in Kamloops on Wednesday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 12 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Regional voters may also be eligible to vote by mail.
Residents enrolled within the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality boundaries are not eligible to vote in Electoral Area P.
The declaration of results is set to take place on November 19.
