Tourism Sun Peaks landed a coveted spot as one of the finalists in Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s (TIAC) National Awards for Tourism Excellence.
The success of the online campaign “I Want to be a Snow Bum” caught the attention of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, making Tourism Sun Peaks one of the top three finalists in the WestJet Online Marketing Campaign of the Year Award.
The two other finalists were Banff Lake Louise Tourism for their China Online Marketing Platform and Destination Halifax for the Halifax Sociable! online community concept.
Launched in October of last year, the Snow Bum campaign was an online contest that attracted the attention not just of individuals who entered the contest, but also of various media outlets.
Social networking devices like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter were specifically integrated into the campaign to garner attention for Sun Peaks as a winter destination.
“This selection is a credit to the team at Sun Peaks as the promotion included the engagement of an entire community of businesses,” says Nicolson. “Snow Bum is an example of a carefully planned strategy exceeding expectations. We not only achieved our awareness goal, but were able to produce social media content with help from our enthusiastic and genuine winner, Thiago Lucena, from Brazil.”
The winners will be announced at an awards dinner in the Tourism Summit on Nov. 2 in Gatineau, Quebec.
