Vertical Cafe’s new owners excited about new venture

Vertical Juice has new owners and a slight change in name.

The cozy coffee shop located at the Coast Sundance Lodge has been renamed Vertical Café by Kamloops residents and new owners Mark and Shannon Gadsby. It’s now a family-owned business with their daughter Ryley lending a hand with the daily operations.

“We’re very excited about working together,” said Shannon Gadsby. “Our kids are grown and we are mostly on our own. We have worked various careers in our lives and we’ve decided that it will be kind of a nice time to do something we’ve always wanted to do, which is to run a café. We just really thought that Sun Peaks would be a really good spot for that. We saw the real estate listing and it caught our eye.”

The new Vertical Café’s menu will include a summer staple—the gourmet hotdog.

“We’re bringing the gourmet hotdog to Sun Peaks as an alternative for things to eat up there,” said Ms. Gadsby, saying that it’ll be an affordable option for young mountain bikers that frequent the resort in the summer and young skiers and snowboarders in the winter. “We also have a whole gamut of fresh made baking.”

Wraps, panini, smoothies and Cherry Hill coffee will still be available at the coffee shop as well as the Internet café.

A grand opening is being planned. The store is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m. weekends.
