As the snow gradually melts, it’s not only the crocuses that surface. It’s time to tackle the litter that has been hiding under the clean blanket of snow for so long.
The Delta Sun Peaks Green Committee is once again hosting a village clean-up. The event will go ahead on May 4, rain, shine or snow. Community members, Delta staff, and anyone else who would like to participate, are asked to meet at the Delta oval at 10 a.m. Garbage bags will be provided by the hotel, but participants are asked to bring their own gloves.
The clean-up team will tackle the core of the village, starting at the upper end of the Kookaburra Lodge, continuing through the village cobble stones and ending at the Village Day Lodge. Doug Avery, chief engineer of the Delta Sun Peaks and member of the Green Committee trio, states that this is a preliminary Sun Peaks clean-up, focusing specifically on the village core. A more extensive community wide Trash Bash will take place near the end of May.
Participants in this village clean-up are invited to a fundraising barbecue following the May 4 event. Five dollars, or three non-perishable food items, will get you a burger, pop and chips. Cash proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity – Kamloops, and the food items will go to the Kamloops Food Bank.
