Walking on Sun Peaks Road against common sense but not against bylaws

 | January 1, 2013

The Sun Peaks Municipality has confirmed it doesn’t have power to issue fines to individuals who are found walking on Sun Peaks Road.

However, walking on the road is extremely dangerous and the municipality discourages any resident or guest from walking on the main road to the village. Instead, walkers should use the lit and plowed valley trail.

The municipality has indicated that it’s been in discussion with local businesses about ensuring that employees walk safely, and some local businesses have implemented policies against employees walking on the road.

The dynamics of Canadian roads in winter might not be clear to all; drivers can easily lose control of their vehicles on slick roads, and slide into unassuming pedestrians. Similarly, efforts to avoid walkers in winter driving conditions can lead drivers to lose control of their vehicles and injure themselves.
