Water interruption for residents of Sunburst Subdivision

Issued at 11.30 a.m. –  Sun., May 15, 2011 Sun Peaks Utilities has experienced a water main leak in the piping that services the Sunburst Subdivision.  Water service will be unavailable for the Sunburst Subdivision from approximately noon on Monday, May 16, 2011 until the repair is completed (see map below of affected area).  No other areas of the Sun Peaks Community are affected by these repairs. This interruption in water service is necessary to allow Sun Peaks Utilities to repair its water distribution pipe that provides water to the Sunburst Subdivision.  Work is scheduled to be complete by 6 p.m. Monday but may be delayed if difficulties are encountered in the field. In order to minimize inconvenience during this repair, Sun Peaks Utilities is advising residents in the Sunburst Subdivision at Sun Peaks to collect sufficient water to meet their needs for the duration of the repairs, before service is interrupted. Sun Peaks Utilities has set up a temporary source of water at the Village Day Lodge that can be used to fill water containers.  This water is available from 6.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.   Utility staff have a limited emergency supply of bottled water for the residences of Sunburst.  Residents are being asked to call 250-319-0638 in the event of an emergency. In addition, bottled water can be purchased at Bluebird Market (250-578-2414) located in the Delta Residences during the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Café Soleil in the Village Day Lodge also has a limited supply for purchase from 6.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sun Peaks Utilities will continue to provide information as it becomes available, and will provide notice to residents as soon as the repairs are completed.  Updates will be available on the Utilities’ web site at http://sunpeaksutilities.com Once the repairs are completed, the utility staff will be flushing the water main to clear any naturally occurring mineral deposits.  There may be some initial cloudiness in the water due to this flushing.  Residents are being asked to allow their cold water tap to run until clear.  The water is considered safe to drink. Sun Peaks Utilities thanks residents for their patience as staff carries out this emergency work.  If you have any questions or require additional information, please call the office at 250-578-5490 Monday to Friday or in an emergency, the on-call technician can be reached at 250-319-0629.
