Whitecroft and Heffley Lakes reject volunteer fire service

The proposition for a volunteer fire service covering the Whitecroft and Heffley Lakes area has been rejected.

The process that’s been underway for more than two years concluded with the Sept. 15 deadline for petition return. John Sternig, Area P representative for the Thompson Nicola Regional District, confirms that the proposal was defeated.

For the proposal to have passed, at least 50 per cent of the eligible property owners must have signed the petition, representing at least 50 per cent of the net taxable value of the property in the service area. Only approximately 27 per cent of residents submitted petitions supporting the volunteer fire service.
