Returning to Sun Peaks for his second workshop is acclaimed Kelowna-based artist Alex Fong.
With a watercolour style that’s characterized as a “kaleidoscope of light and colour” and a “bouquet of wonder and whimsy” Fong has been evolving his artwork for 33 years.
“(My art is) mostly watercolour, (and) a little bit of acrylic. Most of my work is nature-based,” Fong explains. He began his career in interior design, but was deeply inspired by the natural environment.
“Back then it was saving the whales, and they were clubbing harp seals. That was kind of the thing I was trying to do — save the planet, and painting was a good way to express my feelings and get people more aware.”
Fong will bring his expertise to Sun Peaks and area artists on August 10
and 11.
“The biggest thing about painting is trying to get contrast in your work, so that’s my focus: colour and contrast,” he explains. “I don’t try to teach people how I paint, I try to teach people how to paint their paintings better and develop their own personal style. It’s not about me, it’s all about them.”
