The 16th annual Show-N-Shine car show and pancake breakfast, hosted by Heffley Creek Community Recreation Association, will honour the late Jim Davies.
Davies, who was a longtime member of the Heffley Lake Community Association and active community volunteer, died Friday, March 6.
“Jim Davies was a huge silent hero in our community,” organizer Deb McDougall-Bergstrand said.
To honour his memory and carry forward his legacy of giving back to his community, McDougall-Bergstrand hopes to rally volunteers to make this year’s event, set for June 7, bigger than ever.
“I just wanted to do something for the family,” she said.
The event will bring back the popular pancake breakfast, vendor tables and raffle tickets, with a few new prizes to look forward to including a Best of Show Memorial Award. Funds from the raffle tickets will go toward the Heffley Area Community Wildfire Response Team, a cause Davies championed.
“It’s just shaping up to be a great event and I’m trying to…do what I think would make Jim proud, because he basically inspired me to be a better person,” McDougall-Bergstrand said.
Costs for the show have increased, and volunteers are welcome and needed, she added.
“If you’re a volunteer, you get a free meal. We look after you, and I can put you where you want to be. I don’t make anyone do anything they don’t want to do. So I’ll find something that fits.”
To inquire about becoming a volunteer, email heffleycreekhall@gmail.com.
“It’s about supporting the community and helping individuals gather and meet and socialize,” McDougall-Bergstrand said of the event. “And now we get to honour a hero.”
