FIFA comp draws competitive crowd

FIFA Night Michael Hure and Phil HoenemannMasa’s Bar + Grill played host to a 30 player, round-robin FIFA 15 tournament on PlayStation 3, attracting a large crowd of participants and spectators on Thursday, April 2.

Matches were held on the Masa’s projector screen and on a TV supplied for the evening, while attendees dressed in their best football colours and cheered on their friends and favourite teams.

The event was the brainchild of Masa’s staff member Michael Hure, who went on to win the night’s competition. The event proved so successful, Hure held a second, NHL themed event the following week.

“I ran one back home at a pub I worked at and the response there was pretty popular. I mentioned it to a few people here and they were pretty excited about the idea. I only decided to do it about three days before the event and I had 28 people register in less than a day,” Hure said.

“It was a massive response, and everyone I talked to about it said it was a great night out.”

Hure finished in first place, with Cam Whitaker, Alvin McDougall, and Josh Harris rounding out the top four positions. Plenty of Pilsner themed prizes, including bags, hoodies and t-shirts were handed out to competitors.
