Flu shots will again be available to Heffley Lake, Whitecroft and Sun Peaks residents at the Hearthstone Lodge on November 14. The flu shot clinic will run from 5 to 7 p.m.
Barb Brodie, volunteer with the Sun Peaks Health Association, explains that in the clinic’s first year, 2004, nine residents were inoculated against flu. The success of the clinic has grown, and last year Brodie estimates 50 to 60 shots were dispensed.
For anyone choosing not to get the shot, though, Brodie cautions against spreading germs unnecessarily.
“Don’t be a hero, don’t go into work sick,” she says. “Wash your hands and always cough into your elbow.”
The controversial Novartis vaccines have been recalled and are no longer in circulation.
Questions in regard to flu shots should be directed to Interior Health or to family doctors.
