RCMP investigation remains active
Kamloops Search and Rescue suspended their search for missing Sun Peaks resident 19-year-old Ryan Shtuka this morning, although the RCMP investigation and community search parties continue to operate.
“KSAR had 22 members on the search yesterday which included search dogs, snowmobiles, drones with infrared cameras and helicopters. As well 74 volunteers from the community also assisted searching,” read a statement posted on their Facebook page at 11:15 a.m. “KSAR will be available should new information become available and the RCMP requests us.”
Members were deployed from 5 a.m. until approximately midnight on Feb. 18 uncovering no sign of Shtuka, who has been missing since the early morning hours of Feb. 17 after leaving a house party on Burfield Drive.
“Our thoughts are with the many family and friends of Ryan Shtuka,” said the statement.
Shtuka’s parents, Heather and Scott, have travelled from the family’s home in Beaumont, AB to be in Sun Peaks. Both extended their thanks to the community for support and help searching.
Despite valley temperatures dipping to around -17 C, community member and friends donned snowshoes to continue the search the area for Shtuka, concentrating on Burfield Rd., Sun Peaks Rd. and the section of Heffley Creek which runs between them.
RCMP did not respond to interview requests before this article was published.
Shtuka was last seen wearing dark jeans, a grey/ white shirt, a blue coat and a burgundy ball cap.
