Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality launches new platform for non-emergent issues

The platform will assist residents and guests with requests, concerns or complaints for the municipality, director of operations says.

Residents and guests now have access to a new online request tool to report non-emergency issues with roads, drainage, trees, shrubs, utilities, and other requests that don’t need immediate action. There is also a selection available for general inquiries and bylaw issues, which will connect residents with an officer as soon as possible.

The platform was launched Aug. 4 to make contacting the municipality more accessible, and puts Sun Peaks in line with other local governments that have similar tools, Clint Burton, director of operations for Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality said.

The service was approved in the 2026 budget and will cost about $10,000 per year to operate, Burton added.

“We get a lot of different requests from a lot of different people through a lot of different channels, email, phone calls,” Burton explained.

The site allows visitors to choose which department their concern is headed toward and the correlating staff members of each department will be notified. Requests are open 24 hours a day via phone or computer, and staff will receive an immediate notification between  8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Response times will change depending on the request, based on the severity of the concern.

“I am keen to see over time the sorts of requests that come in, and are they all small things that can be done in the next one or two days, or are they larger things that require more planning and potentially, maybe even some budget considerations,” Burton said.

Folks submitting requests are able to choose how they want to be notified as well as, with options such as email, text or a voice generated call. Submitters are also able to choose no notification .

“I am hoping people feel that the issues they’re raising and the request they’re asking for [are] being managed more thoroughly and expeditiously,” Burton said.

On an organizational level, the platform will support the municipality to manage all the requests and mitigate communication challenges.

“Our [chief administrative officer], gets lots of emails about minor issues that really should be going to the public works team that they can correct immediately, and the platform will do that,” Burton said.

Burton urged residents to share feedback on how the system is working. Although it is not a fully customizable software, staff will do what they can to improve any issues that arise.

“I’m really keen to hear what people think of the process and the communication and just the functionality,” Burton said.

To access this service visit sunpeaksmunicipality.ca and at the home page there will be a button under the quick links section with “report an issue or request a service.” That link will lead directly to the submission requests.

Residents can email Burton with questions about the platform at cburton@sunpeaksmunicipality.ca
