The Sun Peaks students who participated in this year’s We Day event are supporting their global We Day initiative by selling “love” buttons to raise funds for education in villages in Kenya and Haiti.

We Are Love is raising funds for the Adopt a Village initiative which identifies five pillars that need to be addressed to develop a village: education, water, health-care, hunger and poverty. The Sun Peaks students chose a pillar that’s close to their hearts — education.

“We decided on this campaign because we know how lucky we are to get to go to such a unique school and we want to help others to have an opportunity to even go to school,” said Discovery Centre teacher Thomas Lowe.

The Sun Peaks students have been engaged with local and global We Day projects through their Hike for Haiti, Halloween for Hunger, and Coats for Kids campaigns. They’ll be selling “love” buttons in their neighbourhoods for $2.
