Sun Peaks Resort LLP (SPR) will be opening for summer operations later this month under provincial COVID-19 protocols and with new operating procedures.
“We are thrilled to be able to open for summer and allow people to get outdoors and recreate in the safe environment of the mountains. We have worked diligently to develop an operating plan that thoughtfully meets guidelines while helping play a role in providing an outlet for guests after what we have all been through in recent months,” said Aidan Kelly, chief marketing officer for SPR.
Golf will open to members on Saturday, June 13 and to the public on Friday, June 26. SPR has announced a new online booking system, with no walk on tee times available. There will also be increased time between tee times and specific check in and play guidelines.
The Bike Park will open for pass holders on Friday, June 26 and to the public on Monday, June 29. Biking season passes are now on sale and the number sold may be limited “to help keep everyone safe and have a great experience this summer,” according to the SPR website. There will also be a limited number of biking day passes available each day and SPR said it has worked with industry partners to standardize lift procedures for safe operation during the pandemic.
Alpine hiking will be available to pass holders on Friday, June 26 and open to the public on Monday, June 29. The included hiking pass for winter season pass holders will not be in effect until the first week of July. There will also be a limited number of hiking day passes available each day “to manage guest numbers, overall guest experience, and ensure our new safety procedures are followed,” said the SPR website.
The Sunburst chairlift will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Sunday, Sept. 13 with two bonus weekends on Sept. 18 to 20 and Sept. 25 to 27. All products should be purchased online, in advance to guarantee access, as window ticket sales will not be available for a majority of the summer. Shopping early is recommended for best selection.
There will be no Mountain Cross Carts, bungee trampoline or Tod Mountain Mining Co. activities this summer.
All large scale events have been cancelled for the summer however, the Sun Peaks Farmers’ Market will begin on July 5. Other smaller events may be added to the line up as restrictions allow.
Some SPR-owned dining, rental and retail outlets have begun operating in the village with additional safety procedures with more planned to open when the chairlift begins turning.
More information can be found on their website. SPIN will continue to report on the summer opening with more details in the future.
