Tennis club gaining momentum

DSC_0024Plans to start a local tennis club are gaining momentum, according to Vincent Lafontaine, sports director for Sun Peaks Resort LLP.

Lafontaine said tennis coach Jamie Jack was helping to build interest in the club with a host of tennis events this summer, including junior clinics and private lessons.

Jack has also recently launched free cardio tennis clinics for adults and children on Tuesday nights, helping people to get fit while working on their tennis skills.

A drop-in tennis club has also begun on Sunday mornings, and locals looking for a game are encouraged to join in.

A friendly tournament is also in planning stages, and expected to be held in September.

Lafontaine said the increase in tennis activities was leading to increased local interest in a club.

“We’re not quite there yet, but we’re well on the way, and we’re making really great progress,” he said.

“Hopefully next summer we will have everything in place for the tennis club.”
