Walloping mosquito season predicted

The TNRD is anticipating a higher-than-normal mosquito season.

BWP Consulting Inc., under the TNRD, operates the Nuisance Mosquito Control Program in several electoral areas, including Sun Peaks.

Above normal snow pack in the area is expected to contribute to flooding and accumulation of standing water, conditions optimal for mosquito larvae. Yet although mosquito control crews will be applying larvicide to mosquito larvae seven days per week, mosquito numbers are predicted to be higher than normal this summer.

Residents are reminded to empty water-holding containers, cover rain barrels with screens, and check eaves troughs for proper drainage to minimize mosquito presence.
