Young man dies after incident at Sun Peaks

SPIN Newsmagazine regretfully reports the death of a young Kamloops man as a result of an incident at Sun Peaks in the early hours of Sunday November 25. The BC Coroners Service has positively identified the young man as 24 year old Kamloops resident Nick Guido.

“Sun Peaks Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 (First Responders) call around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday morning,” said Fire Chief Bill Stoner. “Our crews attended the incident near the platter lift at Sun Peaks and transferred the injured patient to BC Ambulance for transport to Royal Inland Hospital.”

Barb McLintock, spokeswoman for the BC Coroners Service, confirmed that the young man had died and that the investigation was in its preliminary stages.

“Our understanding is that a young gentleman in his 20s was sliding on an improvised toboggan . . . and somehow slid into a support for one of the towers which caused significant injury. He was taken to hospital but the injuries were too severe and he died a few hours later.”

The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this incident and a full report will released at a later date.
