Wildfire northeast of Heffley Creek put out

As of 4:24 p.m., the status of the wildfire has changed from “out of control” to “being held”. The size remains 1.84 hectares.

A 1.84 hectare wildfire has been reported near Heffley Creek, located about four kilometers northeast of Heffley Creek. According to the BC Wildfire Service, the blaze—designated fire K21624—is suspected to be human-caused, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation. The wildfire was discovered Aug. 25 and remains out of control. 

As of now, the wildfire covers less than two hectares. Nine firefighting personnel, including eight firefighters and one response officer, have been deployed to the site.

“With the hot and dry conditions, it can be easier for wildfire to start and spread,” a BC Wildfire Service representative said. “At this moment, however, it is displaying rank one fire behavior, meaning it is currently a smoldering ground fire.”

The Kamloops Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service continue to monitor the situation, but officials say there is no immediate threat to the nearby community of Heffley Creek or to Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.
