Sun Peaks voters, this is the time to make your voice heard. Advanced polling began Jan. 20 for the incorporation referendum vote and continues with two other advanced polls before Jan. 30. Voters and residents looking for more information prior to the vote can attend a public information meeting January 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort.
Voters will need to take two pieces of identification with you on voting day. Any two of these must be shown at the poll: driver’s licence, utility bill, Social Insurance card, property tax notice, B.C. Care Card or Gold Care Card, an owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle License issued by ICBC, or a citizenship card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
The official voting day for referendum is scheduled on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Delta from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. But if you can’t make it on voting day, there are other opportunities to get your ballot in.
Tthe Thompson Nicola Regional District will be holding two additional advanced polls. One is on Saturday, Jan. 23 also at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Another is on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the TNRD office in Kamloops from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If you’re mailing in your ballot, make sure you mail it in advance so that TNRD’s Chief Election Officer Lyle Huntley receives it by Jan. 29. If the ballot isn’t received in the mail before then, it will not be counted.
Huntley also said that mail-in ballots can be hand-delivered to him at the polling station at the Delta Sun Peaks on Election Day (Jan. 30).
