Arj snowed in at Sun Peaks

Prepare to be in stitches when the four pronged hilarity of the Snowed In Comedy Tour hits Sun Peaks in January, 2013.

Headlined by Arj Barker, best known for his consistently sold-out stand-up comedy shows and his work on the TV show Flight of the Conchords, the Snowed In tour started as a way to combine work and play.

“Snowed In was started by a couple comics who love snowboarding and wanted to combine a comedy tour with a snowboarding road-trip, sort of the best of both worlds,” said Barker. “I did it last year, and it was so awesome that I begged them to take me again this year.”

The tour also features stand-up comedy from Pete Johansson, Craig Campbell and Dan Quinn.

“Yes it’s a very strong bill. Dan Quinn, Craig Campbell, Pete Johansson and myself are all headliners and usually do our own shows, but imagine us combining our skills on one stage? Did you just shit your pants? I thought so. It makes for a pretty killer show.”

While the bill for the tour may be strong, the transport and after-party may be more low-key.

“We’ll be touring in two large SUVs, sort of like Mitt Romney, without the police escort. Normally there’s a fair bit of partying on a tour with multiple comedians, but on this tour, if there’s a big day of powder ahead, we try not to stay out all night. Having said that, bring it on Sun Peaks!”

When Barker isn’t touring the world or appearing on Broadway with his recent parody, the Marijuana-logues, he’s hitting 360s while snowboarding with his tour-mates.

“Quinn and Campbell are the speed demons, and woe to those who get in their way. Quinn goes for big airs and cliff jumps, while Campbell prefers to kill young evergreen trees with his face. I’m half-decent enough to almost keep up with them most of the time,” says Barker.

“Probably the closest to pro snowboarders are Johansson and his wife Courtney. They do this one thing where they hit a jump at the same time, and he does a forward flip and she does a backward flip and somehow they kiss right in the middle while they’re both upside down. It’s one of sickest and definitely the most romantic tricks out there right now,” kids Barker.

So what are Barker’s plans for the rest of 2013?

“I’ll tour for most of 2013, so I need to be prepared! I’ll be doing a major tour of Australia, as well as shows in New Zealand and back in the States too. I even hope to get over to London for a few shows if possible. I’m just going to tour my ass off and then rest up in 2014. That’s how I want to do it for the next few years. One year on the road, one year off.”
