Car crash at Sun Peaks claims one life

Update, Monday, June 10, 4:20 p.m.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed Mark Russell Haynes, aged 33, died following a motor vehicle incident on Sun Peaks Road Saturday evening, June 8, 2013.

Mr. Haynes was the front-seat passenger in a car which left the road and went into the ditch about 11:30 p.m. He was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.

 

Update, Monday, June 10, 11:45 a.m.

Just after 11:30 pm on June 8th, Kamloops Rural RCMP were called to the scene of motor vehicle accident on the Sun Peaks Road where a single vehicle had rolled.

A 33 year old male was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene and a 24 year old male was transported to Royal Inland Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The surviving driver is being investigated for impaired driving in relation to the accident. It is believed that both males were residing in the Sun Peaks area at the time of the accident.

A traffic analyst attended the scene to assist with determining the cause of the accident and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

RCMP, Sun Peaks Fire & Rescue and BC Ambulance attended a single vehicle rollover on Sun Peaks Road shortly before midnight on Saturday, June 8 which left one person dead and another injured.

SPFR Chief Bill Stoner confirmed one patient was transported to Royal Inland Hospital with unknown injuries.

RCMP are investigating, and plan to issue a release later in the day.

The names of the parties involved have not been released.
