As of February 15 eligible British Columbians can replace their CareCard with the new B.C. Services Card by renewing their enrolment in the Medical Services Plan (MSP).
B.C’s new identification card provides a way for residents to use just one card as a form of ID and to access services. It features upgraded security features and will include a photo, anti-forgery features, identity proofing and an expiry date.
Residents have five years to obtain their new card, and can do so when renewing their driver’s licence and re-enrolling in the MSP. Residents who don’t drive can still obtain their card where driver’s licences are issued. Certain exemptions have been made for those in hardship or where re-enrolment would be impractical.
There’s no fee for the new CareCard unless you combine it with your B.C. driver’s licence, which will attract the regular driver’s licence renewal fee.
The card can be obtained in three forms, a combined B.C. driver’s licence and services card, a photo services card or a non-photo services card.
