Cirque du Soleil comes to Kamloops

This fall, prepare for awe-inspiring entertainment as the world-renowned circus act Cirque du Soleil comes to Kamloops, September 1 to 5.

The international cast of 55 performers and musicians from 17 countries will do eight performances of the well-loved production of Alegria at the Interior Savings Centre.

Alegria, which means happiness, joy and jubilation in Spanish, will feature Cirque du Soleil’s signature daring aerial acrobatics and artistry. The show includes Synchro Trapeze and Aerial High Bars where acrobats 40 feet above the stage leap into the arms of catchers swinging on their lofty perch. The Russian Bars feature athletic performers doing mid-air turns and somersaults and landing on four-inch wide bars on the sturdy shoulders of catchers.

The performers’ magnificent and flamboyant costumes are true works of art. Each singer’s costume is detailed by artisans with 200 hand-sewn jewels at Montreal’s Cirque du Soleil’s International Headquarters. All in all, 400 custom-made wigs, hats, shoes and accessories will be used throughout the show.
