Proceeds from lift tickets tomorrow, July 5, will support the fire relief efforts in Fort McMurray, Alta.
High Five for Fort Mac, previously known as Toonie Day, will provide bikers, hikers and sightseers with discounted lift tickets in a charitable effort.
A donation of $5 per person plus a non-perishable food item will provide guests with a day pass to access alpine activities. All funds raised will support Fort McMurray following the devastating wildfire in May and the food items collected will be donated to the Kamloops Food Bank.
“We are really excited to introduce High Five Day this summer to our visitors. Not only will our guests get to experience a full day of lift-accessed activities on the mountain, but they will be helping a fantastic cause in the process,” said Aidan Kelly, director of sales and marketing for Sun Peaks Resort LLP, in a press release. “And with our new summer chairlift hours extended until 7 p.m., their $5 donation will go even further.”
This past winter’s fundraiser was the most successful in the event’s history, dating back to 1999. Skiers and snowboarders donated approximately 3,500 pounds of food and helped raise over $8,500.
