It’s time to arrange your friendly wagers because the rebranded and expanded Sun Peaks Family Cup All Nations Celebration will take place from January 2 to 16. The Family Cup involves families from across the globe donning their country’s colors while participating in a myriad of Snowsports and après events.
Now in its seventh year, the Family Cup initially came about thanks to a partnership between the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation and the (Australian) New South Wales Interschools committee.
“In the early days the program essentially revolved around the family cup event, (a variation on the) dual giant slalom,” said Colin Brost, director of sales at Tourism Sun Peaks. “It’s evolved into a two-week long festival, which includes a whole bunch of other recreational family focused activities . . . (including) non-ski activities . . . (such as) tubing parties, skating parties, receptions and informal après.”
The marquee Family Cup race, will take place on January 12. The cup is open to individuals of any age and from any country. In 2012, Australia won the Sun Peaks Family Cup Country Award.
