There’s always something new on the go at the Sun Peaks Health Centre.
The Sun Peaks Health Association has recently added Robinder Gill, a registered physiotherapist, to their roster of health care professionals. He’s a new skier who’s passionate about treating sports injuries.
Gill brings more than a decade of Canadian physiotherapy experience to the floor, and will treat acute and chronic injuries out of the Sun Peaks clinic.
“I’ll be giving education to patients and giving them home exercises so they can take care of their own injuries and I’ll be like a mentor to them so it’ll be a very creative way of delivering services,” explains Gill. “Normally physiotherapy clinics are huge spaces where people do all their exercises, so this will be very different.”
Gill will travel with his portable ultrasound and combination electrotherapy unit to treat patients. He’s also qualified to offer IMS, intra muscular stimulation, therapy.
“IMS is a form of treatment using acupuncture needles to relieve muscle tightness,” he says. “For example, someone has injured his back (or neck) and it’s in acute spasm; if you do IMS to the back (or neck) muscles the spasm can relax right away and the patient can get his function back.” Gill explains that IMS is a well established science amongst physiotherapists and doctors in B.C.
Gill is available for appointments at the Sun Peaks clinic every Thursday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Due to the size constraints of the centre, though, he won’t be available on the Mondays that are scheduled by the Women’s Clinic.
Patients with one complaint will be charged $80 for initial assessments, while reassessments are $60. Gill issues receipts which can be submitted to private insurance companies for reimbursement.
He’s unable to see ICBC or WCB clients at the Sun Peaks clinic, but is able to service them at his North Kamloops location.
“I look forward to helping people (at Sun Peaks) educating them about taking care of injuries, doing home exercises, pacing themselves, and treating the injury right away after an acute sprain or strain injury to any of the joints,” says Gill.
