Playing to a crowd — every Friday

 | July 14, 2014

WEB new stageTaking music to a new stage, the Johnson Brothers are eager to plug in at Sun Peaks’ Music in the Plaza, Friday, July 18.

The weekly free music event takes place at the Upper Village stage on Friday nights throughout the summer, offering full band shows for free from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Some of the bands up on the roster are old favourites, while new faces will grace the stage too.

The weekly music initiative was launched with funding from Tourism Sun Peaks (TSP), and sponsors organized by local restaurateur and musician Peter Ernst.

“The idea (is) to have something equivalent to Music in the Park in Kamloops,” explains Ernst. “But really, it’s more to have, on Fridays, consistent entertainment because music seems to work here.”

The Johnson Brothers band, comprised of Brett and Trent Johnson, have been playing together for 13 years, and are currently on tour with their “2014 Get Your Feel Good On Summer Tour.” They perform both a mix of country covers and original material.

WEBJohnsonBros“We’ve just released our new single ‘Get Your Feel Good On’ to country radio (stations) across Canada, and this summer tour is in support of the single,” explained Brett Johnson. “We’re excited about bringing our show to Sun Peaks — we’ve heard great things and look forward to coming up there.”

Bringing quality music to the village is part of the expanding list of activities and experiences the resort community is able to offer.

“I’m most enthused with individual businesses (like Peter Ernst with the Music in the Plaza or Gemma Harris with the Segway tours) bringing these things into the village,” comments Christopher Nicolson, president of TSP. “This is a complimentary concert integrated into the animation and village experience.”
