Summer in Sun Peaks will kick off with a weekend of activities scheduled for June 26 to 28.
Along with the reopening of the Sunburst chairlift for access to alpine hiking trails and the Sun Peaks Bike Park, the weekend will be marked with activities including entertaining musicians, magicians, and even Disney heroes and princesses.
A community dog walk, a bouncy castle, face-painting, and the return of the Sun Peaks Farmers’ Market will all contribute to a memorable weekend for the whole family.
Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks, said the weekend would create “a lot of energy” in the village.
“The chairlift is really a pulse for Sun Peaks’ business. There’ll be a notable increase in summer traffic as soon as the chairlift starts running.”
Nicolson said the weekend’s activities were all targeted at families, and expected plenty of visitors from Kamloops and other nearby communities to head up for the weekend.
“It’s about reintroducing Sun Peaks to the local community and making sure they have a good time in a fun environment,” Nicolson said.
In addition to hiking and biking, all the usual summer activities will be offered over the weekend, including horse rides, canoeing, paddle boarding, golfing and Segway tours.
Nicolson said the new horse-drawn trolley will be in operation around the village over the opening weekend, and expected it would be a popular new addition to Sun Peaks over summer.
“It’s something the whole family can enjoy, especially extended families. It’s something a 92-year-old grandparent can enjoy with their 2-year-old grandchild.”
