The Disabled Skiers Association of B.C. (DSABC) and Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks have joined together in partnership with Sun Peaks Resort Corporation, Alpine Canada Alpin, 2010 Legacies Now, the Delta Sun Peaks Resort hotel, and the Sun Peaks Alpine Club to host this spectacular event.
The Adaptive Snow Sports Festival begins as the Snowbility program and Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) offer CADS (Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing) Level 1, 2 and 2a instructor certification courses on Jan. 28 and 29. In addition, adaptive athletes interested in racing can participate in Carving the Future, a race development program. ASSP will also be hosting a Come and Try Weekend, Jan. 30 and 31, for both able-bodied and disabled individuals to give adaptive skiing an attempt.
The festival culminates with the 2010 Western Canadian and B.C. Para-Alpine Championships to be held Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30 and 31. Up to 50 racers from across B.C. and Canada will compete in giant slalom and slalom races over two days, including athletes from the B.C. Para-Alpine Ski Team (BCPAST).
“We are so excited to be coming back to Sun Peaks with another adaptive skiing event for the fourth year in a row!” says Sian Blyth, High Performance Director with DSABC. “The energy and support for adaptive skiing and para-alpine racing has grown tremendously at Sun Peaks and all skiers with a disability are benefitting from this.”
