Talented young photographers display art

Students frPhotography Exhibit - Photo courtesy Kirsten Flinnom the Sun Peaks Discovery Centre for Balanced Education (DCBE) were hard at work in June, hosting their first ever photography exhibition at Sotheby’s International Realty on Wednesday, June 17.

Leading up to the exhibition, students spent time learning about photography before getting out in the field to experiment with different photography techniques. Students then chose their favourite photos to display, and wrote their own artists statements to go alongside their work.

Students Korina Linder and Alivia Mercer said it had been a great experience.

“We got some really good feedback,” Korina. “Everyone said they really enjoyed it, and some people suggested we could sell our photos.”

“I really enjoyed it,” Alivia said. “It’s something I’d like to continue with.”

Kirsten Flinn, teacher and facilitator for DCBE, praised the students’ work, and said budding photographer Juliet McGauchie was one to keep an eye on.

“Juliet is one of the classes’ gifted photographers. She captures amazing photos of wild and urban landscapes and has a keen eye for including herself in her photos using reflections,” Flinn said.

Flinn thanked Sotheby’s International Realty for hosting the exhibition: “They’ve been very big supporters.”
