Facebook, Twitter and the phone lines blew up when Sun Peaks’ own Elli Terwiel qualified for the Women’s Slalom at the Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Aspen, Colo.
Proud father and coach, George Terwiel notes, “She competed against eight other girls from the national team and they only had room for five girls and Elli was picked out of those, under tremendous pressure.”
Tremendous pressure, indeed. Aside from competing at the Worlds on Nov. 27, Terwiel will be racing at the NorAm in Colorado immediately afterward and at the Panorama NorAm in early December. In between those events, she’ll return to the University of Vermont for her final exams.
“It’s going to be a fairly eventful few weeks,” says Terwiel who is beyond excited to have qualified for the World Cup event.
“I’m very excited to be racing. I feel good going into this race and am not going to hold anything back.”
When asked about the pressure of performing in three events while studying civil engineering at the University of Vermont, Terwiel brushes it off.
“I’m very used to performing under pressure, I can handle it, no problem,” she says.
Terwiel competes Sunday, Nov. 27 in the ladies’ slalom.
