Nestled in the Thompson-Okanagan region of B.C., Sun Peaks Resort is the largest ski resort in the area, but what makes it special is its cosy, walkable alpine village. Here’s a full breakdown of where to stay, eat, explore and get the most out of your time here.

Where to ski and ride?

Spread across three interconnected mountains: Tod, Sundance and Morrisey, the resort offers more than 1,500 hectares of terrain that’s easy to explore right from the village. Tod Mountain is the beating heart of Sun Peaks. It’s where you’ll find wide-open groomers that flow for miles, including 5-Mile Run, popular for first-timers who want to see the full scale of the resort in one descent. For advanced skiers, the upper sections of Tod deliver steep chutes and open bowls that hold fresh snow days after a storm.

Just next door, Sundance Mountain shines for beginners and intermediates. Its gentle slopes and consistent fall lines make it a good training ground for new skiers, families or anyone looking to build confidence. Sundance is also home to the Terrain Park, where local riders throw down tricks and Tube Time Park, a family favorite.

Across the valley, Morrisey Mountain feels like a secret locals’ escape. Its tree-lined trails, mellow glades and quiet lifts make it ideal for those powder-day mornings when you’re chasing untouched snow. The views back toward the village and Tod’s summit are stunning, especially at sunrise or golden hour.

The best part? You can ski all three mountains without ever getting in a car. Every run funnels naturally back to the pedestrian village, so you can grab a quick coffee, warm up by a fire pit or head straight to après. Whether you’re here for long carving laps, deep powder lines or easy family days, Sun Peaks’ layout makes it simple to find your flow and fall in love with mountain life.

Where to stay?

The village core is built for convenience. The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre sits right at the base of the Sundance and Sunburst lifts, ideal for ski-in, ski-out access. Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge, Sundance Lodge and more also line the main street, meaning you can wake up and step straight onto the slopes. If you prefer something quieter, head toward Fairways Drive or Village Walk, where cozy townhomes and chalets give more space for families or longer stays.

Eat, sip and après

From sunrise coffee runs to late-night toasts under twinkling lights, Sun Peaks knows how to fuel your mountain days.

Start your morning at Vertical Café, where the coffee’s strong, the breakfast wraps are warm and the locals swap snow reports before first chair. For a cosy mid-mountain break, Café Soleil serves up cocoa and pastries that taste even better with a view. A personal favourite is Tod Mountain Cafe, with great selection of food items if you are in a hurry and a selection of seasonal drinks.

After a day on the slopes, follow the sound of laughter to Bottoms Bar & Grill, a Sun Peaks après institution where ski boots and good stories are always welcome. If you’re craving a pint and live tunes, Morrisey’s Public House has you covered with hearty comfort food and a lively vibe.

Looking to elevate your evening? Mantles Restaurant & Lounge offers fireside fine dining and a refined mountain ambiance. Capones Italian Kitchen is your spot for warm hospitality and rich, flavourful pastas, the kind of meal that feels like a hug after a cold day on the hill.

Shop and essentials

Even though Sun Peaks feels like a cosy mountain hideaway, you’ll be surprised by how much you can find without ever leaving the village. Everything lines the Village Stroll, a charming pedestrian walkway where the smell of coffee drifts through the air, skis clatter in the snow and warm light spills from shop windows.

Start your stroll at McSporties, the shop that’s been outfitting skiers and snowboarders since the early days of the resort. Whether you need a rental, a quick wax and tune or honest advice from people who know the slopes inside out, this is the place. Right next door, The North Face Mountain Outfitters keeps you covered, literally, with high-performance jackets, gloves and base layers for those crisp -10 C mornings on the mountain.

If you’re hunting for something a little more unique, John Tod Trading Co. offers a mix of mountain apparel, casual wear and keepsakes that capture the Sun Peaks vibe. Think cosy sweaters, beanies and souvenirs that make perfect take-home memories.

And for anyone who loves good food with local charm, Ohana Deli Market & Café is a must-stop. This family-run spot blends a neighbourhood grocery with a café and deli, offering fresh sandwiches, baked goods and essentials. When it’s time to restock the basics, Bluebird Market is your best friend. It’s small but mighty, carrying snacks, local treats and quick groceries for when you’d rather cook in your suite than dine out.

Beyond the slopes

Sun Peaks isn’t just about skiing and snowboarding, the village and surrounding mountains offer a range of activities that let you enjoy the alpine charm in different ways.

For an offbeat experience, try axe throwing at Cleavage Axe Co. Just a short walk from the village core, the venue offers instructor-led sessions for beginners and competitive games for seasoned throwers. Grab a cider or local beer, challenge your friends to a friendly competition and embrace your inner lumberjack.

Explore Sun Peaks’ quieter corners on foot. Snowshoe trails weave through the forested slopes and open meadows of Tod and Sundance mountains. Rentals are available in the village and guided tours are great for learning the local flora, wildlife and hidden viewpoints.

Enjoy a classic winter pastime at the village rink. Lace up your skates, glide under twinkling lights and warm up afterward with hot chocolate from a nearby café. It’s a festive activity for families, friends or even a romantic evening.

For those craving a slower pace, try ice fishing on nearby lakes. Local guides provide equipment and know the best spots to catch trout or rainbow trout, making it a perfect way to connect with nature while staying warm and cozy in the snow.

Sun Peaks isn’t just about skiing, it’s a full alpine experience. Hit the slopes across Tod, Sundance and Morrisey, then step into the village for cosy lodges, great eats and boutique shopping. Take a break from skiing with axe throwing, snowshoeing, ice skating or even ice fishing. Whether you’re here for adventure, family fun or just a winter getaway, Sun Peaks makes it easy to explore, relax, and make memories, all without ever leaving the village. It’s winter, made simple and unforgettable.
