As part of the phased reopening of the province during the COVID-19 pandemic, some provincial parks and rec sites will reopen for day use today.
This includes the Heffley Lake rec site and boat launch and Sullivan (Knouff) Lake rec site. It also includes the McGillivray and Morrisey Lake sites, although they are currently inaccessible due to the amount of snow remaining on the access roads.
Day use is considered from dawn to dusk.
All of those sites are also slated to open for overnight camping use as of June 1 if the phased reopening continues as planned.
To keep safe while using the sites Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) recommended sticking to sites that are close to home, continuing to follow physical distancing guidelines, bringing hand sanitizer, practising proper hygiene and not visiting while sick.
RSTBC also stated when camping reopens site users may see changes such as more space between sites and limits on the number of guests in campgrounds.
