Home Tour features beautiful dwellings in Sun Peaks area

If you love architecture, you’re going to love this. The fifth annual Home Tour: Architectural Spaces is coming to Sun Peaks and area on July 17, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Home Tours is a popular fundraiser for The Kamloops Art Gallery, with proceeds going to art camps, youth and senior art education and exhibits.

This self-guided tour will be like stepping into a life-sized page from Style at Home magazine. The best part: getting to peruse each home at your own pace.

Judy Basso, Kamloops Art Gallery’s fundraising events coordinator, said the idea to hold a home tour in Sun Peaks came to her last year as she was showing a friend some of the gorgeous houses around the village.

“It happened to be the Wine and Culture weekend at Sun Peaks,” she said. “I was showing her around and thought ‘I really want to do a home tour up here.’ And then I thought ‘Wait a minute, this is the perfect weekend to do it.’

Four houses with unique designs will be showcased in the tour, decorated by four home stagers and interior decorators using furniture and accessories from local retailers.

“These houses are works of art in themselves,” said Basso. “These are designs that started on a piece of paper that somebody had to draw. The home is a manifestation of this drawing so it’s a piece of art standing on its own. The interior design is very creative and really inspiring for people to learn how to create creative design in their homes as well—again that’s art. It’s not just about art hanging on the walls.”

Brandy Olson-Hevia, a Kamloops interior designer, is excited about adding pizzazz to the house assigned to her.

“It’s a modern home. Everything is done in white right now so I’m going to put a punch of colour,” said Olson-Hevia. “It’s going to be a lot of fun to play with.”

Dena Hartling’s show home has an eclectic, East meets West feel to it because of the homeowners’ love of travelling.

“They have a lot of things from travelling, just very unique pieces. It’s very different so it’s also going to be staged very differently.”

The Home Tour will be held in conjunction with the 4th Annual Wine and Culture Festival. Tickets for the Home Tours are $40 + HST. Each ticket has a $10 voucher to one of six Sun Peaks restaurants valid only on the day of the event. Participating restaurants are Bella Italia, Mantles Restaurant, Masa’s Bar and Grill, Cahilty Creek Bar & Grill, Mountain High Pizza and Tod Mountain Creperie.
